3 MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR Dearly beloved in Christ Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Great Lent or Valiya Nombu, we have been observing from March 2nd Sunday onwards. Lent is infact a spir- itual retreat of the church through which the members of the church meditate upon the cross of Christ and submit to it in a sense of complete re- pentance. These 50 days should help every member of the church to have an experience of abiding in Christ in a realistic way. Mid - Lent was observed on the 26th day of the Great Lent, which al- ways falls on a Wednesday. On the 40th day of Lent (known as 40th Friday), there is a special service in the church. The 40 days symbol- ize the 40 days fasting of Jesus Christ in the wilderness. During the next 10 days, the believers identify with the passion,crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On Palm Sunday or Hosanna (13 April) the great entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is celebrated with solemnity. The whole week is known as "passion week" (Hasa). There are special evening services during this week. Thursday is known as passover ( Pesaha), the day of the institution of the Eu- charist. Good Friday is the day of crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross.On Sunday the church celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ with great joy. There is a special Easter service before the eu- charist. May the crucified and resurrected God Jesus Christ help us to observe this years Lent meaningfully. Dear beloved in Christ, As you all know, we will be leaving at the end of this month (April 29th), after 3 years of Gods ministry in St. Johns Marthoma Church. As per the Marthoma synod's decision, I got transferred to Elavumthitta Bethlehem, Chennirkkara Ebenezer Marthoma Church (Chengannur - Mavelikkara Diocese). We express our sincere gratitude for all your prayer, care, love and support that really nurtured us in many ways for Gods ministry here in this par- ish. We remember the feet that walked toward betrayal, carried a cross up Golgotha ’ s hill, and were pierced with nails for our sins. Isaiah calls these feet beautiful, not because they were untouched by pain, but because they carried good news: peace, salvation, and the powerful truth that “ Your God reigns. ” Good Friday reminds us that love can look like a cross. But the story does not end there. On the beautiful Feast of the Resurrection, we remember those same scarred feet walked out of the tomb in victory! The silence of death was broken by an angel ’ s announcement: “ He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. ” (Matthew 28:6) The good news of Isaiah 52:7 was fulfilled in full. Jesus didn ’ t just proclaim peace, He became our peace. He didn ’ t just declare sal- vation, He conquered death to give it. As we remember from the cross to the empty tomb this Holy Week, may we carry this message in our own lives, with steps that bring light into dark places, comfort into sorrow, and hope into despair.
